A high-level traverse of the Italian Dolomites, usually walked from the Lago di Braies area southward between rifugi. Limestone terrain and hut spacing shape the stages.
About 125 km in 12 official stages from Lake Braies to Belluno; many walkers adapt the stages to about 8–12 days.
Demanding mountain trekking with rocky paths and exposure. The park’s classic southern finish includes equipped passages and a via ferrata. Check your exact variant and endpoint: an earlier walking exit is a different itinerary.
Match each stage to your experience, verify the exact route variant and reserve rifugi directly before travel.
Plan transport to your selected trailhead and from your finishing point; route variants may change the connections.

The official route is about 125 km and is described in 12 stages, but your real itinerary still depends on mountain experience, the exact variant and where you can reserve rifugi. Use the official stages as structure, not as a promise that every day suits every walker.
Shortening the itinerary can combine mountain days that were separated in the official stage structure. Check ascent, descent, exposure and your own experience before merging stages.
Check opening dates and beds before fixing transport. If a preferred rifugio is unavailable, change the stage plan rather than forcing an unrealistic day.
The park’s classic southern finish includes demanding equipped passages and a via ferrata; these are not merely optional summit detours. Verify your exact endpoint and variant, including any earlier exit, with current route and refuge information before booking.
Keep the route, preparation and buying decisions connected.
Use the adventure-specific checklist for footwear, weather layers, navigation and rifugio stays. Athvaro does not yet have a verified hiking-product shortlist for this route.

Check official source ↗Cortina’s tourism office describes these 12 stages. They provide orientation, not a fixed booking plan. Combine or split days only after checking terrain, elevation gain, weather and hut availability.
Choose the southern variant carefully. The published stage 11 includes the Piero Rossi via ferrata. The same official page describes an alternative, longer walking route; it is still demanding. Check the exact route with the hut or a qualified local guide before reserving. Do not treat the whole traverse as an easy beginner walk.
For a shorter trip, select connected stages and confirm access and an exit route before booking huts. Reserve the overnight stops in walking order and keep a weather alternative. Check the current transport timetable for both ends of your chosen segment.

Build an interactive day-by-day plan for your chosen variant, terrain, hut confirmations, transport and weather alternatives. Fill distance and elevation from the exact route source; a hut booking does not prove that a stage suits your group.
Keep your hut bookings and exact route sources together. This is your editable plan, not a verified route or safety assessment. You can also save your plan in your account.
Review the plan together before booking. Recheck conditions near departure and seek local expert advice if terrain or variants exceed your experience.
