HYROX gear guide 2026: shoes, bags, heart-rate monitors & essentials

A source-backed HYROX gear guide that separates race-critical choices from training tools, convenience and merch.

HYROX athlete in competition
HYROX gear should solve a real race or training job — not just carry the logo.

Start with your use

Start with the job, not the logo. Shoes directly affect every run and station transition; heart-rate straps only add value if the data changes training decisions; bags and apparel mainly improve logistics and comfort.

Which route fits?

Race shoe: prioritise your own balance between running efficiency, grip and station stability.

Training shoe: choose repeatable comfort and durability before race-day speed claims.

Heart-rate sensor: useful for interval control and post-session analysis only when the data changes a decision.

Bag: convenience and organisation, not performance.

Apparel/accessories: fit, movement and temperature management first; branding last.

Check before you buy

  1. Test race shoes after sleds, lunges and burpees, not only on a fresh treadmill run.
  2. For heart-rate straps, check device/app compatibility and whether you actually use the data for pacing or review.
  3. For bags and apparel, solve a real race-weekend problem such as shoe separation, wet kit, chafing, pockets or temperature management.

What the evidence cannot tell you

Do not confuse official HYROX branding with a universal performance advantage. Athvaro does not rank gear by sponsorship or affiliate availability.

HYROX / GEAR 2026

Build the kit around the race.

Four jobs matter more than matching logos: move efficiently, capture useful data, carry what you need and stay comfortable under fatigue.

PUMA Deviate NITRO Elite running shoe
01 · SHOES

Run fast. Stay stable.

Judge a shoe on repeated 1 km running plus sleds, lunges and floor work — not on running alone.

Athlete training with performance monitoring
02 · HEART RATE

Upper arm or chest?

COROS uses an optical upper-arm sensor; Polar H10 uses an electrical chest sensor. Compare placement, comfort, connectivity and the decisions you actually make from the data.

Sports gear prepared for training and race day
03 · RACE BAG

Pack the job, not the logo.

Choose bag capacity from shoes, warm-up layer, change of clothes, bottle, nutrition and small essentials. More litres are not automatically better.

Athlete racing in functional sports apparel
04 · APPAREL

Test comfort under fatigue.

Movement freedom, heat management and no-chafe comfort matter more than a matching set. Race only in kit you have trained in.

SOURCE-BACKED EXAMPLES

Build your HYROX kit by job

These are examples, not a ranking. Start with the category that solves a real need for you.

Race shoes

PUMA x HYROX Deviate NITRO™ Elite 4

Race-focused shoe for athletes prioritising the repeated running segments while still needing grip and stability around stations.

PUMA lists 194 g (UK 8), 40/32 mm stack, 8 mm drop, NITROFOAM™ Elite, a full-length carbon PWRPLATE and a PUMAGRIP outsole with HYROX-oriented traction.

The useful question is not whether it is the 'best HYROX shoe', but whether a light plated running shoe still feels stable enough for your sleds, lunges and compromised running. Test those transitions before race day.

Training shoes

PUMA x HYROX Velocity NITRO™ 5

Daily running and hybrid-training option for athletes who do not want every session in a race-focused plated shoe.

PUMA positions the HYROX Velocity NITRO 5 for daily running and hybrid training, using NITROFOAM™ cushioning and a PUMAGRIP outsole.

For most training weeks, durability, comfort and repeatability matter more than a race-day speed claim. A separate training shoe can also keep the race shoe familiar but less heavily used.

Heart-rate & training data

COROS Heart Rate Monitor

Upper-arm optical heart-rate sensor for athletes who prefer biceps/upper-arm placement over a chest strap during hybrid sessions.

COROS specifies upper-arm wear, a multi-channel optical sensor, up to 38 hours of operation, 80 days standby and up to three simultaneous Bluetooth connections.

A strong option when chest-strap comfort is the problem. The trade-off is connection support: this sensor uses Bluetooth rather than ANT+, so check your watch or phone before buying.

Polar H10

Chest-strap heart-rate sensor for athletes who want fast-response heart-rate data during intervals and hybrid training.

Polar specifies Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity, recording mode and up to 400 hours battery life; Polar explicitly positions ECG chest sensing for high-intensity sessions where rapid heart-rate changes matter.

Useful if heart-rate data actually changes how you pace intervals or review training. It is not required HYROX gear, and buying one adds little value if you never use the data for a decision.

Garmin HRM 600

Current Garmin premium chest strap for athletes already using Garmin who want heart rate/HRV plus compatible running-dynamics and activity-recording features.

Garmin identifies HRM 600 as its newer premium sensor and documents heart-rate/HRV transmission, activity recording, running dynamics and a removable washable strap module.

The case is strongest inside the Garmin ecosystem or when its extra recorded metrics matter. For simple reliable heart-rate capture, compare the extra features with a simpler strap before paying for them.

Race bags & organisation

PUMA x HYROX Daily Backpack 34L

Race-weekend backpack with a separate shoe compartment and organisation for kit, bottle and small items.

PUMA specifies 34 L volume, 46 × 29 × 18 cm dimensions, padded straps, ventilated back, bottle pocket, multiple internal pockets and a zipped shoe compartment.

This is convenience rather than performance. A bag earns its place if it keeps wet clothes, shoes, fuel and race essentials organised; a backpack you already own may solve the same job.

Apparel & accessories

PUMA x HYROX apparel & accessories

Race and training clothing, shorts, tops and accessories designed around the HYROX collection.

PUMA's current HYROX collection includes dedicated footwear, PWRMODE apparel, CLOUDSPUN pieces, bags and other accessories.

Prioritise freedom of movement, temperature management, pockets/chafing and clothing you have already trained in. A HYROX logo is not a performance feature.
